They’re back to even for the season.

After picking up a home win over Kemptville Friday night, the Brockville Braves defeated the Canadians 5-2 in Carleton Place on Sunday afternoon. The Jr. A Braves are 2-0 under interim head coach Dustin Traylen, who took over from Randy Jones on Wednesday; at 10-10, Brockville is now eighth in the 12-team Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL).

The Braves went up 2-0 on the Canadians in the first period on Sunday on goals by Jake Laville and Luke Tchor. Gino Colangelo scored on a power-play to cut the lead in half.

Liam Reid’s first goal with Brockville – a power-play marker – made it 3-1 for the visitors at 11:54 of the second. Dylan Pollock brought Carleton Place back to within a goal at 14:26 of the middle frame.

Matt Harvey restored the Braves’ two-goal lead at 13:27 of the third, and Zach Biniaris added an empty-netter with 1:02 to go in regulation.

Tchor, who also picked up three assists on the afternoon, was named first star. Second star went to Brockville goalie Sami Molu, who made 31 saves in the victory.

The Braves were outshot by the Canadians 33-24.

Brockville had started the weekend with a 6-2 win against the 73’s at the Memorial Centre. Kemptville opened the scoring midway through the first period Friday on Matt Yakubowski’s power-play goal. Laville scored his first goal for the Jr. A Braves at 16:36.

Brockville took a 2-1 lead on Lucas Culhane’s short-handed goal at 7:39 of the second. The Braves added to their lead on Trent Ledrew’s second goal of the season at 15:24. Laville’s second goal of the game came 66 seconds later to make it 4-1, and Culhane’s second of the period and eighth of the year gave the Braves a four-goal lead.

Emile Trottier of the 73’s made it 5-2 early in the third. Colin Elliott’s sixth goal of the year restored Brockville’s four-goal advantage at 12:31.

Elliott, who also picked up three assists Friday night, was named first star. Laville and Trottier were named second and third stars.

The Braves outshot Kemptville 39-31. Molu picked up the win in net for Brockville. Conor Blackwood played the first two periods between the pipes for the 73’s; Jacob Biron was in net for the third.

Attendance at the Memorial Centre was listed at 432.

Tchor is tied for second in the CCHL with 29 points.

Brockville (10-10) will host Navan on Friday at 7:30 p.m. With their win in Pembroke Sunday night, the Grads (14-5-2) moved into first overall in the league.

At 14-6-0-1, the Smiths Falls Bears are now second overall in the CCHL. The Bears lost 4-1 to Nepean on Sunday. Riley Thompson scored his 11th goal of the season for Smiths Falls.

The Bears are ranked 17th in Canada by the CJHL in its weekly top 20 Jr. A list released on Monday. Smiths Falls was not ranked last week. The only other CCHL team listed this week is Ottawa, which is 16th. The Jr. Sens were 17th last week.

Kemptville (6-9-3) will host Carleton Place (10-8-1-0) on Tuesday night at 7:30. The 73’s will then visit the Bears Friday night.
