Braves score five in a row in home win over Kemptville – Recorder & Times

It was a good way to enter the second third of the regular season.

The Brockville Braves defeated the Kemptville 73’s 6-2 at the Memorial Centre on Friday night. It was the first game behind the bench for Braves GM Dustin Traylen, who is now also serving as interim head coach after the team parted ways with Randy Jones on Wednesday.

Kemptville opened the scoring midway through the first period Friday on Matt Yakubowski’s power-play goal. Jake Laville scored his first goal for the Jr. A Braves at 16:36.

Brockville took a 2-1 lead on Lucas Culhane’s short-handed goal at 7:39 of the second. The Braves added to their lead on Trent Ledrew’s second goal of the season at 15:24. Laville’s second goal of the game came 66 seconds later to make it 4-1, and Culhane’s second of the period and eighth of the year gave the Braves a four-goal lead.

Emile Trottier of the 73’s made it 5-2 early in the third. Colin Elliott’s sixth goal of the year restored Brockville’s four-goal advantage at 12:31.

Elliott, who also picked up three assists Friday night, was named first star. Laville and Trottier were named second and third stars.

The Braves outshot Kemptville 39-31. Sami Molu picked up the win in net for Brockville. Conor Blackwood played the first two periods between the pipes for the 73’s; Jacob Biron was in net for the third.

Attendance at the Memorial Centre was listed at 432.

Brockville (9-10) will visit Carleton Place (10-6-0-1) on Sunday afternoon at 3. The Canadians lost 5-1 in Smiths Falls on Friday night. At 14-5-0-1, the Bears are now first overall in the CCHL.

Former Brave Will McEvoy made 34 saves for Smiths Falls and was named first star.

The Bears will play at Nepean on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Kemptville (6-9-3-0) will visit second-place Ottawa (13-4-2-0) on Saturday night.
