The third period was big for the home team.

The Brockville Braves scored three times in the final frame to defeat the Kemptville 73’s 3-0 at the Memorial Centre on Friday night. It was the second shutout of the week for the Jr. A Braves and goalie Sami Molu, who had blanked Nepean 5-0 at the CCHL Winter Showcase on Tuesday.

Nate Burelle scored the game-winner for Brockville at 5:41 of the final frame on Friday; it was his third goal of the season. Jake Laville made it 2-0 at 15:17; he now has seven goals this year.

With the Kemptville net empty, Nick Foster scored his fourth goal of the season to put the game out of reach with about 53 seconds left in regulation.

The Braves outshot the 73’s 39-26.

Burelle and Molu were named first and second stars. Third star went to Kemptville goalie Alex Musielak.

A crowd of 302 was on hand at the Municipal Centre. Two CCHL games – including Rockland at Smiths Falls – had been postponed Friday afternoon due to weather and/or road conditions.

Brockville (16-14-2-1) remains in seventh place in the 12-team league.

The Braves will face the league-leading Jr. Senators in Ottawa on Saturday night. Game time is 8:10.

The Jr. Senators (26-5-2-1) are ranked ninth in Canada in this week’s CJHL top 20 list.

Kemptville (12-15-4-1) remains tied with Cornwall for ninth in the CCHL. The 73’s will visit second-place Navan (22-9-3) on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

Third-place Smiths Falls (21-9-1-2) will play at Rockland on Saturday night at 7:30. The Nationals (14-13-2-2) are in eighth place, three points behind the Braves with two games in hand.

The top eight teams will advance to the CCHL playoffs.
