Braves blank Nepean Raiders at CCHL Winter Showcase – Recorder & Times

It was their first win of the new year.

The Brockville Braves blanked the Nepean Raiders 5-0 on Tuesday as part of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) Winter Showcase held at the North Grenville Municipal Centre in Kemptville. The win moved Brockville back into seventh place in the 12-team league, one point up on Rockland.

Eric Barnard opened the scoring with what would end up being the game-winner for the Braves at 12:45 of the first period. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Matt Yeager’s seventh goal of the year came on a power play at 16:45 of the opening frame. Jake Laville’s sixth goal of the campaign made it 30 15 seconds before intermission.

The Braves went up 4-0 on a power-play goal from Ty Henry at 10:33 of the second; it was his second goal of the season. Nate Burelle’s second goal of the year closed out the scoring at 8:44 of the third.

None of the five scorers was in the opening-night lineup for the Braves in September.

Brockville outshot Nepean 49-19. Sami Molu picked up the shutout and the victory in net for the Braves.

First star went to Lucas Culhane of the Braves; he had two assists. Teammate Colin Elliott chipped in with an assist and was named second star. Third star went to Nicolas Papineau of the Raiders.

Attendance at Pad Two was listed at 75.

The Braves had been edged at home 4-3 in overtime by Nepean on Friday night.

Brockville (15-14-2-21) will host the Kemptville 73’s this Friday, Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Kemptville defeated Carleton Place 5-3 at home on Tuesday. The Canadians were up 3-2 when Matthew O’Doherty drew the 73’s even in the second period. Tyler Melvin scored the game-winner for Kemptville late in the second, and Grady Logue added an empty-netter late in regulation.
