Braves blanked by CCHL-leading Ottawa – Recorder & Times

It was their third game in a row that was a shutout.

The Brockville Braves lost to the Jr. Senators 6-0 in Ottawa on Saturday night. The Jr. A Braves had blanked Nepean on Tuesday and shut out Kemptville at home on Friday night.

Ottawa, which leads the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL), got the game-winner on Saturday from Liam Lucas early in the second period. Massimo Gentile made it 2-0 for the Jr. Sens late in the middle frame and added two goals in the third, giving him 23 for the season. Mikael Hebert and Xavier Guillemette also scored for Ottawa.

The Braves were outshot 42-22. Connor Shibley picked up the shutout in net for the Jr. Sens. Philip Rondina made 36 saves for Brockville.

Gentile and Shibley were named first and second stars. Third star went to Colin Elliott of the Braves.

Brockville (16-15-2-1) remains in seventh place in the 12-team league, three points ahead of the Rockland Nationals.

Rockland lost at home 7-3 to Smiths Falls on Saturday night. The Bears (22-9-1-2) are now tied with Navan for second in the CCHL. Smiths Falls will host Ottawa (27-5-2-1) on Friday night.

Brockville will host the last-place Pembroke Lumber Kings on Friday night.
