Stacey scores hat trick, Brockville defeats Carleton Place – Recorder & Times

It was another slow start for the Braves.

Brockville trailed Carleton Place 2-0 in the first period at the Memorial Centre Friday night, but the Braves came back to take a 3-2 lead into intermission and went on to win 6-2 in front of a crowd of more than 700 on Fan Appreciation Night. With two games left in the regular season, Brockville remains three points ahead of Renfrew for third overall in the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL).

The Braves gave up power-play goals to Isaac Pascoal and Matteo Disipio at 7:08 and 11:30 of the opening frame. Brockville got on the board at 13:18 on Justin Dauphinais. 20th goal of the season. Colin Stacey tied the game 35 seconds later; it was his eighth goal of the year. The Braves took the lead for good with 1:08 left in the period. Ryan Bonfield scored his 32nd goal of the season.

After a scoreless second, Stacey made it 4-2 on his second goal of the night at 6:03 of the third. Teammate Owen Rainey gave Brockville a three-goal lead at 10:38, and Stacey made it a hat trick with a power-play goal at 15:25.

Stacey was named first star. Rainey, who also picked up two assists, was second star. Third star went to Disipio.

Brockville, which had lost three of its last four games, outshot Carleton Place 38-23. Sami Molu picked up the win in net for the Braves. Brady McEwan was the Canadians’ goalie.

Brockville (35-16-0-2) hosts Renfrew on Sunday afternoon at 3. The Wolves kept pace with the Braves by defeating Kemptville 3-2 Friday night.

Hawkesbury clinched second overall with a win over Nepean. The league announced Saturday that the Hawks’ Rick Dorval is Head Coach and GM of the Year.

Smiths Falls kept its playoff hopes alive by defeating Navan Friday night. The Bears are four points behind eighth-place Rockland, which lost to Pembroke.

Brody Fournier racked up four goals in the Smiths Falls win, giving him the league lead at 33. Bonfield is tied for second at 32.
