It was a great start for Brockville on Wednesday night.

The Jr. Braves were up 2-0 against league-leading Jr. Senators 63 seconds into their CCHL game in Ottawa, but the home team overcame the early adversity and ended up winning 6-3. With the loss and Pembroke’s victory Wednesday, Brockville is now second in the Robinson Division and third overall in the 12-team league.

Luke Tchor made it 1-0 for the Braves 22 seconds after puck drop; it was his 10th goal of the season. Owen Belisle’s fifth of the year then gave the visitors a two-goal lead at 1:03 of the first period.

Philippe Jacques’ 18th goal of the year cut the lead in half; the power-play marker came at 9:14. Ottawa’s Simon Isabelle tied the game 90 seconds into the second period; it was his 13th goal of the season. The Jr. Senators took a 3-2 lead at 8:21 on Anthony Provost’s fifth goal of the year.

Jack McDonald’s first goal as a Brave tied the game at 2:17 of the third, but Robbie Stewart responded 26 seconds later with his second goal of the season to restore Ottawa’s lead. Brockville then had a chance to tie it up again a short time later, but Lucas Culhane was unable to score on a penalty shot.

With the score 4-3 late in regulation and Braves goalie Sami Molu on the bench, Thomas Freel scored empty-netters at 18:25 and 19:58.

Provost, Isabelle and Belisle were named first, second and third stars respectively.

Ottawa outshot Brockville 30-27. William Desmarais picked up the win in net for the Jr. Sens; Molu was tagged with the loss.

The Braves (20-10-0-2) will host Rockland at the Memorial Centre on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Ottawa, which is ranked third among Jr. A teams in Canada, has won 24 of its 29 games this season.
