Brockville Braves blank Carleton Place again – R&T

Make that two shutouts in a row at the Memorial Centre.

The Brockville Braves blanked the Carleton Place Canadians 4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Jr. A Braves had also shut out the Canadians at home on Friday night.

Owen Belisle’s goal early in the second period would prove to be the game-winner. It was Belisle’s eighth goal of the season.

Former Carleton Place player Ryan Bonfield made it 2-0 on a power-play at 9:17 of the second. It was his 27th goal of the year and 21st since joining Brockville in November. Jack McDonald’s fourth of the season gave the Braves a three-goal advantage at 11:24.

Brockville’s fourth goal of the afternoon was scored on a power play by Nic Lariviere at 11:14 of the third. It was his second goal of the season.

Brandon Abbott stopped all 24 shots he faced to pick up the win in net for the Braves. Sami Molu got the shutout Friday.

Brockville outshot Carleton Place 33-24 on Sunday.

Belisle was named first star. Teammate Colin Elliott racked up three assists and was the second star. Third star went to Derek Hamilton of the Canadians.

It was the third home game in four days for Brockville; Sunday matinee attendance was 187.

Brockville (30-13-0-2) remains in first place in the CCHL’s Robinson Division and third overall in the 12-team league. Pembroke and Renfrew trail the Braves by six points, and the Kemptville 73’s are now eight points behind Brockville.

Kemptville was edged 5-4 in overtime by Smiths Falls on Sunday. Brody Fournier’s second goal of the afternoon was the game-winner. Former Brockville goalie Will McEvoy was in net for the Bears.

The Braves play in Kemptville on Tuesday night and are home to Navan on Thursday night. Brockville has 10 games left in the regular season.

Carleton Place and Smiths Falls are tied for ninth overall, eight points out of a playoff spot.
