Braves split home-and-home with Ottawa Jr. Sens – Recorder & Times

They made a statement one night and then received a response the next.

After the Braves edged the Jr. Senators on home ice Friday, Brockville lost 5-2 in Ottawa on Saturday. The loss dropped the Jr. A Braves to 3-6 four weeks into the CCHL regular season.

Ottawa’s Nicolas Papineau opened the scoring at 17:54 of the first period Saturday. Brockville captain Thomas Haynes scored on a five-on-three 32 seconds before intermission to make it 1-1. It was his third goal of the season.

The Jr. Senators regained the lead one minute into the second on Massimo Gentile’s sixth goal of the season. His second goal of the game was on a power play at 16:10 of the middle frame to make it 3-1 for Ottawa.

The Braves cut the lead in half midway through the third on Jack Robinson’s first regular-season goal with Brockville. The Jr. Senators went up 4-2 on Emile Villiard’s power-play goal.

With Braves goalie Philip Rondina on the bench, Brockville game up an empty-netter to Vincent Velocci with 1:35 to go in regulation.

Ottawa outshot the Braves 38-33. The Jr. Senators, the reigning CCHL champion, are now 7-1-1.

Brockville’s next game is at home against the Cornwall Colts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cornwall was 5-2-1 heading into its game in Navan Sunday afternoon.
