Weekly WrapUp – Braves Rout Colts in Fourth Meeting of the Season

Harper Cotie – Voice of the Braves

Friday’s game between the Cornwall Colts and the Brockville Braves had a little bit of everything. A 7-2 win for the Braves on home ice with the home crowd at the Brockville Memorial Centre witnessing lots of goals, penalties (16 combined) and injuries. It all started just 27 seconds into the hockey game with Colts forward Colby Lauzon being ejected from the game after a hit from behind on Braves blueliner Garrett Nystrom.

The Toronto native (Nystrom) left the game, but later returned in the opening period. It didn’t take long for the Braves to start putting the puck in the net thanks to two goals from Kellen Dostaler at 5:12 and 18:22, followed by another goal 29 seconds later as Hunter Robitaille took a sweet cross ice pass from Zach Biniaris on a two-one-one and buried his first as a Brave in just his third game with the club.

The onslaught from the Braves continued into the second period with a pair of goals from Brandon Paluszak and one from Alex Cote to chase goaltender Cohen Lesperance-Spack out of the crease, while surrendering one Cornwall goal to take a 6-1 lead into the third period. At the 14:00 mark in the final frame, Cornwall’s frustration came through in an ugly way with Braves netminder Ryan Gerlich taking a slash to the hand after the whistle from a Colts player that forced Gerlich to leave the game and not return.

However, Nate Gillis came in and allowed just the one Cornwall goal on eight shots, while Charles Poudrette put the icing on the cake with his first as a Brave on the penalty kill at 18:39 to give the Braves a 7-2 victory over a Cornwall team who was coming off a win over the Pembroke Lumber-Kings the night before.

Brockville continues to hang on to a playoff spot down the stretch as they now sit in seventh place overall with 39 points and get set for a tilt this week with the Ottawa Jr. Senators who sit just two points being Brockville in the standings.
