Harper Cotie – Voice of the Braves
The Brockville Braves went 1-1 this past weekend and now have points in three of their last four (2-1-1). In a drama filled contest against the third place Cornwall Colts on Friday night, the Braves prevailed with a 3-2 win despite Colts forward Adam Walker miraculously tying the game with 0.1 seconds left in regulation…Unbelievable!
In overtime, it was Jesse Lumsden once again who fired a perfect shot past the glove hand of goaltender Gavin Melcher on a two-on-one with Max Treppo. Braves Head Coach/GM, Dustin Traylen comments on the team’s performance and the officiating:
“So Friday, I thought was one of our better games of the season actually. We were very prepared and came out and executed a game plan very well. We held the Cornwall Colts to very little in the way of offense for two-plus periods. I felt there were some outside factors (again) that changed the complexion of that game, and that kind of stuff has to stop, but full marks to the boys who persevered and came through with a very gutsy overtime win.”
Saturday’s game on the road vs. the Ottawa Jr. Senators had a different result. After a scoreless 40 minutes, the Braves surrendered two goals in the third period and lost 2-0. Traylen says our team needs to learn how to play in a back-to-back situation:
“As good as we were on Friday, we were bad on Saturday. That’s a team (Ottawa) that had played three games in four nights, and it’s a team that’s lower than us in the standings and trying to just stay afloat. That was a game that I felt really got away from us and I wasn’t very happy with the group from top to bottom with the exception of Ryan Gerlich, who I thought was outstanding this weekend. We just have to find a way to put it together more consistently.”
In other news, Kimani Eccleston will represent the Brockville Braves on Team Canada East in the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge in Camrose, Alberta until December 15! As for the Braves, their next game will be this Friday at home vs. the Smiths-Falls Bears. Puck drop is 7:30 on Flo Hockey.
