They’ll take the two points heading into the CCHL Fall Showcase.

Evan Boucher scored the game-winner in the fourth round of the shootout as the Brockville Braves edged the Colts 2-1 in Cornwall on Thursday night.

Paul Waldhauser had given the home team the lead early in the first period. There was no more scoring until 4:42 of the third period, when Brockville’s Colin Stacey tied the game with his fourth goal of the season.

Will McEvoy made 27 saves for Brockville and picked up the shootout victory. Cornwall goalie Alex Houston stopped 30 shots.

Braves captain Jackson Hay said in an interview Friday he was happy that Brockville “stuck through it” and managed to overcome the one-goal deficit against a tough opponent.

The defenceman had been traded from Brockville to Cornwall and played for the Colts for two seasons before returning to the Braves in a trade this summer. He acknowledged there was a lot of emotion and “a little bit of nerves” playing against his former team for the first time.

“As much as I love to be in Brockville, I had some great friends on that team,” said Hay.

“But once you step on that ice, all that friendship is scratched away and you’re just playing another opponent.”

Emerick Nadeau, a former Brave, was named first star. Brockville’s Luke Tchor, who assisted on Stacey’s goal, was second star. Third star went to Waldhauser. Another former member of the Braves, Jonathan Heise, picked up an assist on the Cornwall goal.

Brockville did not have a home game at the Memorial Centre on Friday night.

Brockville and the 11 other teams in the league are taking part in the CCHL Fall Showcase in Ottawa this weekend. Each team plays on Saturday, Sunday and Thanksgiving Monday. Many scouts from the NHL, OHL and collegiate level are expected to be on hand.

The Braves, who enter the weekend with a record of 3-2, open against Smiths Falls on Saturday at 1:30. Brockville then takes on Rockland at 3 Sunday afternoon. The Braves play the Hawks on Monday at 12:15 p.m.

“Even playing back-to-back games is tough on the body, so three in a row and four in five days… it’s a lot of work,” said the Brockville captain.

“Having that extra game last night, it doesn’t help. But it’s two points, so no one will ever complain about that,” Hay remarked.

Brockville’s next home game at the Memorial Centre is against Cornwall Friday night.
