It won’t be long before they’re back on the ice.
The Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) will open its 2022-2023 regular season on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The Kemptville 73’s will visit Nepean, and the defending champion Ottawa Jr. Senators will host Navan.
The Brockville Jr. A Braves will open at home against Smiths Falls on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Like last year, each CCHL team will play 55 games – five against each of the other 11 squads – in the upcoming regular season. The top eight teams will advance to the playoffs, which are scheduled to open March 22.
The Jr. A league played 62 regular-season games prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Braves finished third overall last season and edged the Pembroke Lumber Kings in the fourth overtime period of game seven to win their quarter-final series. Brockville went on to lose the semi-finals in five games to Hawkesbury.
The 73’s finished fifth overall and lost their quarter-final series with Renfrew 4-2. Smiths Falls defeated Rockland in a sudden-death game to determine the eighth and final playoff spot last spring. The Bears were then swept by Ottawa in the quarter-finals.
For the first time in many years, the Braves-Tikis training camp will be held in Brockville at both the Memorial Centre and Youth Arena, starting on Aug. 22.
