The Brockville Braves are on the verge of being eliminated from the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) playoffs.

The Jr. A Braves lost 6-2 to the Bears in Smiths Falls on Tuesday night and now trail 3-0 in their best-of-seven quarterfinal series. Game four is at the Brockville Centennial Youth Arena on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

In his first game in the CCHL, Nevyn Trenholm gave Brockville a 1-0 lead at 11:06 of the opening period on Tuesday. Trenholm scored 15 goals with the Richmond Royals of the EOJHL this past regular season.

Caeden Heins evened the score for Smiths Falls at 17:32. The Bears outshot the Braves 13-7 in the first period.

Marc Antoine Riopel made it 2-1 for Smiths Falls at 2:52 of the second, and Dean Carvalho added to the Bears’ lead at 8:33.

Smiths Falls went up 4-1 at 13:58 of the middle frame on a goal by Andrea Blais. Less than a minute later, Tyson Parker scored his third goal of the series to make it 5-1.

At that point, Brockville’s starting goaltender Austin Caley was replaced by Nate Galbraith

Braves captain Kayden Buller scored his second goal of the playoffs to make it 5-2 at 18:18. Parker’s second goal of the night capped the scoring at 4:51 of the third period.

Parker, Riopel and Trenholm were named first, second and third stars respectively.

Smiths Falls outshot Brockville 40-22. Brett Ruddy picked up the win in net.

The Bears have outshot the Braves in each of the nine periods of the series as well as in overtime of game one, totalling 142-67.

Brockville has scored first twice and has had the lead in each of the three games.

Fans planning to attend game four are reminded that Youth Arena seating is limited. Braves passholders will be admitted starting at 6:15; tickets for everyone else will be available at the front and back doors at 6:30.
