They were outshot but had the advantage that counts.
The Brockville Braves defeated the Navan Grads 4-1 at the Memorial Centre on Friday night. The Jr. A Braves scored first and maintained the lead in front of a home crowd of 360.
Pat Lanthier’s fourth goal of the season made it 1-0 at 4:08 of the first period. Marco Iozzo gave the Braves a two-goal lead about nine minutes later.
The Grads cut the lead in half at 17:50 on a power-play goal by Joseph Ianniello, but Iozzo’s second of the game made it 3-1 at 4:18 of the second. Veteran defenceman Anthony Biniaris added some insurance midway through the third; it was his second goal of the year.
Navan outshot Brockville 29-22. Brandon Abbott made 28 saves in net for the Braves.
Iozzo, Abbott and the Grads’ Gabriel Crete were named first, second and third stars respectively.
Brockville (9-4-0-2) is three points behind league-leading Ottawa and Kemptville. The Braves will play the Jr. Senators in Ottawa on Saturday night. Kemptville edged the Jr. Sens 5-4 in a shootout Friday night.
Navan’s record is now 9-5.
Also in the CCHL on Friday, Pembroke defeated Smiths Falls 5-2.
