Carleton Place defeats Brockville to end Braves’ streak – R&T

They made the third period interesting, but it was still a loss.

The Brockville Braves dropped a 6-4 decision to the Canadians in Carleton Place. Brockville remains in first place in the CCHL’s Robinson Division and tied with Hawkesbury for second overall in the 12-team Jr. A league with two weeks to go in the regular season.

Matteo Disipio gave the Canadians a 1-0 lead at 7:45 of the first period. Isaac Pascoal made it 2-0 on a power-play at 13:19 of the middle frame, and Ethan Woolsey’s short-handed marker with about two second left in the period gave Carleton Place a three-goal lead.

Each team had four power-play opportunities in the second, according to game stats posted by the CCHL.

Brandon Walker scored early in the third to make it 4-0. The Braves finally got on the board on Owen Rainey’s sixth goal of the season at 4:20. Less than a minute and a half later, Justin Dauphinais made things interesting by scoring his 18th of the year and seventh with Brockville to cut the Canadians’ lead to two.

The Braves pulled their goalie at 16:20, and Devin Pimm scored an empty-netter just over a minute later to make it 5-2. With the goalie still on the bench, though, Landon Wright scored his first goal as a Brave 24 seconds later to pull Brockville within two again, and Brockville captain Thomas Haynes made it 5-4 with 48 seconds left in regulation.

Gino Colangelo’s empty-netter with six seconds on the clock completed the Canadians’ home win.

Disipio, Woolsey and Wright were named first, second and third stars.

The Braves outshot the Canadians 34-29, including 18-8 in the third. Joe Chambers picked up the win in net for Carleton Place. Brandon Abbott was in goal for Brockville.

The Braves had won seven in a row entering Sunday’s game.

Brockville (33-14-0-2) is home to Hawkesbury on Wednesday; puck drops at 8 p.m. The Hawks lost to Renfrew Sunday.

The win moved Carleton Place to within six points of a playoff spot. The Canadians (17-27-1-3) are at Hawkesbury Tuesday night.
