Another night, another game-winner for Lucas Culhane.
The Brockville captain scored a short-handed goal at 3:58 of overtime to lift the Braves over the Renfrew Wolves 3-2 at the Brockville Memorial Centre on Friday. Culhane had also scored the go-ahead goal in Brockville’s 4-3 victory in Cornwall on Thursday.
Renfrew took a 1-0 lead at 17:22 of the first period Friday on Elvis Slack’s 25th goal of the season. Culhane evened the scored 19 seconds before intermission; his 17th goal of the year was on a power play.
The Jr. A Braves went up 2-1 at 13:14 of the third when Zach Biniaris scored his fifth goal of the season, but the Wolves responded 39 seconds later on Noah Vom Scheidt’s 12th goal of the campaign.
Brockville had a 35-34 edge in shots. Sami Molu picked up another win in net for the Braves; Sebastian Resar was tagged with the overtime loss.
Culhane, who now has five game-winning goals this season, was named first star. Second star went to teammate Colin Elliott, who assisted on both of the captain’s goals. Vom Scheidt was the third star.
A crowd of 287 was on hand at the Memorial Centre.
Brockville (20-15-4-1) remains in seventh place in the 12-team Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) but is now just three points behind sixth-place Renfrew, which has two games in hand. The Braves will play the Lumber Kings in Pembroke on Sunday night.
