Braves sweep Colts, will host Lumber Kings Friday night – Recorder & Times

Brockville will be looking to even their record on Friday.

The Jr. A Braves defeated the Colts 4-1 in Cornwall on Thursday night to sweep a home-and-home that started with a 7-3 victory in Brockville last Friday. The Braves are now 5-6; the Colts’ record is 6-5-1-0).

Tristan Miron gave Cornwall a 1-0 lead on a power play early in the second period Thursday. Brockville’s Lucas Culhane evened the score with a power-play goal of his own at 5:57. It was his sixth goal of the season.

Braves captain Thomas Haynes scored what would prove to be the game-winner at 9:32 of the middle frame. It was the fourth goal of the year for Haynes. Kowin Belsterling scored his first goal with Brockville at 11:16 of the third, and Luke Tchor’s seventh of the season was into an empty net with 2:12 left in regulation.

The Colts outshot the Braves 34-26. Sami Molu made 33 saves in the win for the visitors. Dax Easter, who is from Brockville, stopped 22 shots for Cornwall.

Haynes, Molu and Miron were named first, second and third stars respectively.

The Braves will host the Pembroke Lumber Kings (2-7-0-1) on Friday night. Puck drop at the Brockville Memorial Centre is at 7:30.

The Colts will take on the Hawks in Hawkesbury on Friday night.

In the other CCHL game Thursday, Ottawa downed Navan 6-1 to move into sole possession of first overall in the 12-team league. The Jr. Senators had been tied with Smiths Falls; the Bears (8-3-0-1) will host Navan (7-4-2-0) Friday night.

Also in action Friday will be Kemptville; the 73’s (3-6-1-0) host Nepean (3-6-0-2).
