Braves fall to Wolves – R&T

Recorder & Times Staff

It was another Saturday night loss up the valley.

The Brockville Braves were defeated by the Wolves 4-1 in Renfrew. The Jr. Braves had dropped a 5-1 decision to the Wolves a week earlier.

Renfrew was up 3-0 at the first intermission Saturday on goals by Mason Goldie. Tyson Tomasini and Christopher Hocevar. The Braves were trying to kill a double-minor in the second period when Colin Elliott scored a short-handed goal at 5:33. It was Elliott’s third of the season and second in as many nights. He had opened the scoring for the Braves in Brockville’s 3-2 win at home over Smiths Falls on Friday.

Tyson Phare scored an empty-netter at 17:17 of the third to give the Wolves a three-goal advantage.

Renfrew outshot the Braves 29-23. Will Craig picked up the win in net for the Wolves. Sami Molu made 25 saves for Brockville in the loss.

The victory moved Renfrew to within four points of the Braves. Brockville (26-13-0-2) remains tied with Pembroke for first in the CCHL’s Robinson Division and third overall in the 12-team Jr. A league.

The Braves’ next game is in Rockland on Tuesday night. The Nationals are eighth overall. Brockville won all four of its previous games with Rockland this season.

In the other CCHL game Saturday, Smiths Falls defeated the league-leading Jr. Senators 5-2 in Ottawa. It was a four-point night for Sean James, who added to his CCHL scoring lead. Former Brave Will McEvoy made 34 saves in the victory.
