It was a good afternoon for Sami Molu.
The Brockville goaltender made 43 saves and was named first star in the Braves’ 3-1 win at Navan on Sunday. Brockville remains in seventh place in the 12-team Central Canada Hockey League but is now four points up on eighth-place Rockland.
Navan opened the scoring Sunday. Blake Butler gave the Grads a 1-0 lead at 12:57 of the first period.
Kowin Belsterling’s sixth goal of the season drew the Braves even at 4:45 of the second.
Brockville went up 2-1 at 9:35 of the third on a power-play goal by Kyle Powers; it was his sixth goal of the year.
The Grads’ goalie went to the bench with 1:10 to go in regulation. Colin Elliott scored an empty-netter about 11 seconds later. Elliott now has 12 goals on the season.
Brockville was outshot 44-29. Belsterling was named second star. Third star went to Calum Chau of Navan.
The Braves (17-15-3-1) will visit the third-place Bears (22-10-1-2) in Smiths Falls on Tuesday night. Puck drops at 7:30.
It will be the fifth and final regular-season game between the County Road 29 rivals. Brockville won three of the first four, with one of the victories coming in OT.
The Braves’ next home game will be against league-leading Ottawa (29-5-3-1) on Friday night. The Jr. Senators defeated Kemptville 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.
