The winning streak continues for the Brockville Braves.
Brockville defeated Kemptville 3-1 at the Memorial Centre on Friday night. It was the Braves’ seventh victory in a row.
Clay Korpi gave the home team the early lead when he scored his second goal of the season at 2:21 of the first period. The Braves outshot the 73’s 20-4 in the opening 20 minutes.
Ryan Gillespie made it 2-0 for Brockville 71 seconds into the second period; it was his sixth goal of the year. The Braves’ lead grew to three when Justin McRae scored his 13th of the season on a power play at 8:17 of the middle frame. Kemptville outshot Brockville 19-13 in the period.
Madoka Suzuki’s short-handed goal at 3:44 of the third put the 73’s on the board, but that was it for scoring on the night. The Braves outshot Kemptville 43-33. Jake Begley made 32 saves and picked up the win in net for Brockville. William Anderson stopped 40 shots in a losing effort.
McRae, Begley and Anderson were named first, second and third stars respectively. Memorial Centre attendance was listed at 467.
The home win gave Brockville (14-4-3) sole possession of second place in the CCHL Robinson Division standings. The Braves will travel to Nepean to take on the Raiders on Sunday afternoon.
Brockville edged the Colts 2-1 in Cornwall on Thursday night for the Braves’ sixth straight victory. Sam Allison and Parker Casey scored for Brockville; former Brave Christophe Cote had Cornwall’s lone goal. Simon Harkness picked up the victory in net for Brockville.
A Remembrance Day ceremony held just before the start of the game at the Memorial Centre on Friday night included the reading of In Flanders Fields and a moment of silence. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 96 Brockville past-president Don Corneil dropped the puck.
