Brockville outlasts Pembroke, wins game seven in fourth overtime to take series

In one for the record books, the Brockville Braves edged the Pembroke Lumber Kings 2-1 in the fourth overtime period of game seven of their CCHL quarter-final playoff series. Caleb Kean scored at 6:31 of the seventh period early Saturday morning to give the home team the victory in front of a huge crowd of 1,265 at the Brockville Memorial Centre.

The Braves will advance to the semi-finals, where they will face the Hawkesbury Hawks. The Lumber Kings, who had a 3-1 lead in the series, are done for the season.
Pembroke opened the scoring at 11:37 of the first period Friday night on a power-play goal from Jack Stockfish. Teammate Alex Urbisci was then awarded a penalty shot at 16:52 of the second period, but he was stopped by Brockville goalie Sami Molu.

Less than two minutes later, Ryan Bonfield scored a power-play goal to draw the Braves even.

The next goal was by Kean, more than 87 minutes later.

“It was amazing. I had a ton of chances all game,” he said after players and coaches lined up to shake hands at the end of the series. “I told the boys I was going to get one. It was nice. It’s a good feeling,” Kean added.

Brockville appeared to have more scoring chances during the overtime periods, including two power plays.

Brockville outshot Pembroke in the marathon game 61-58.

Kean, Molu and Pembroke goaltender Reece Proulx were named first, second and third stars respectively.

“We’re pretty ecstatic to get the win,” Braves head coach Randy Jones said, “but it took a few extra periods.”

Two seed Hawkesbury will have home-ice advantage in the semi-final series with three seed Brockville. Top-seeded Ottawa and four seed Renfrew will meet in the other series; game one is in Ottawa Saturday night.

The Brockville-Hawkesbury schedule had not been posted as of Saturday morning.
